Conor Oberst’s Old Punk/Post-Hardcore Band Desaparecidos Reuniting

Conor Oberst’s old punk rock/post-hardcore band Desaparecidos is reuniting for a brief August tour. The Bright Eyes frontman will also be playing a number of solo shows and festivals over the next few months.

Desaparecidos, which translates in Spanish to “the disappeared,” has done a good job living up to its name since forming in 2001 and breaking up in 2002. The band reunited for just one show in 2010, playing The Concert For Equality in the group’s hometown of Omaha, Neb.

Along with Oberst (vocals, guitar), the group features Landon Hedges (bass guitar, vocals), Matt Baum (drums), Denver Dalley (guitar) and Ian McElroy (keyboards). Desaparecidos only put out one album before splitting up – 2002’s Read Music/Speak Spanish.

The band’s mini reunion tour begins Aug. 9 in Minneapolis at The 400 Bar. Next the group plays the Maha Music Festival Aug. 11 in Omaha, Neb., at Stinson Park at Aksarben Village. The rest of the dates are scheduled on the West Coast: Seattle’s Showbox At The Market Aug. 25; Portland, Ore., at McMenamins Crystal Ballroom Aug. 26; and San Francisco at The Regency Ballroom Aug. 29.

Oberst’s solo shows include Bethlehem, Pa., at Musikfest Cafe At ArtsQuest Center July 24; Albany, N.Y., at Swyer Theatre at The Egg July 25; Fairfield, Conn., at StageOne July 26; and Newport, R.I., at the Jane Pickens Theater July 27. He’ll also take the stage at the following events: Sweet Relief Benefit in New York City (May 9); RBC Bluesfest in Ottawa, Ontario (July 6) and Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island (July 29).
