The 2nd Annual Precipice: A 3 Day Happening Returns To Burlington, VT

Burlington, Vermont has a lot going for it. A great community, beautiful land, a picturesque lake, mountains on either side, and an incredibly fertile and expansive music scene. The latter of which ebbs and flows like a river, bands come, band go, members form side projects that become main projects, and some break into the big time, i.e. Phish, Grace Potter, or Anais Mitchell. If you are looking for a taste of this city’s musical history and future, then making a pilgrimage to The Precipice is vital.

The 2nd Annual Precipice: A 3 Day Happening, presented by Switchback Brewing Company will take place July 26th, 27th & 28th on the massive, tree lined field behind Burlington College, a short walk from downtown with camping available next door at North Beach. The music, art, food and beer fest will feature over 60 different musical acts over the course of 3 days and across 4 different stages.

On the national front, the fest will feature up and coming indie powerhouse, Superhuman Happiness (featuring members of Antibalis, TV on The Radio, and Iron & Wine); Philadelphia songwriter Birdie Busch; and Rusty Belle & Bella’s Bartok, both from Amherst, MA.

Topping this year’s bill, on the local front, are Barika (featuring members of Mike Gordon Band & Rubblebucket), Kat Wright & The Indomitable Soul Band, Ryan Power, Heloise & The Savoire Faire, Rough Francis, Alpenglow, Eames Brothers Band, Michael Chorney & Hollar General, The Lynguistic Civilians, Magic City (playing a whole set of Sun Ra tunes!), Swale, Blue Button, Paper Castles, Maryse Smith and The Dupont Brothers.

In addition to the music, and the many food vendors, there will also be an “on site, multi-media, chill-out village,” a living art piece curated by local Burlington artists.

Seven Days (aka THE local Burlington arts paper) music editor Dan Bolles called last year’s Precipice, “a rousing success and probably gets my vote for my single favorite live-music experience locally this year. It was that good… The guess here is that the Precipice 2.0 will be a major highlight of 2013.”
