Phish @ Watkins Glen Rumors Addressed

For the past six months there’s been lots of rumors floating around about a potential Phish festival at Watkins Glen over the Fourth of July Weekend. Today, the print edition of Corning, NY’s The Leader newspaper included an article on the potential concerts that featured a few quotes from WGI president Michael Printup. [Article in Sidebar]

Here’s a look at the pertinent information from the article…

Fueling the “Phish at The Glen” rumors, fans have pointed to WGI’s proven capacity to handle large crowds, its proximity to Interstate Highway 86 and the recent loss of its IndyCar race on Fourth of July weekend.

On Tuesday, WGI president Michael Printup didn’t elaborate on what bands or any possible dates, but he did acknowledge the track has been considering hosting concerts.

“We’re talking to some folks, except that it’s so far off right now,” he said. “There’s no ink on paper, there’s discussions and phone calls. If we can get it done in cooperation with Schuyler County, we’d like to get it done.”

So, while there’s not really any confirmed information included in the article, this does mark the first time the Watkins Glen rumors have been addressed by a local newspaper and that talks for a potential concert at the racetrack have been confirmed. Though, as stated above, Printup did not confirm Phish was the band in question or provide any possible dates. Would you hit a three-day Phish festival at Watkins Glen next summer?

  1. I’d go as long as i could afford tickets, a summertime roadtrip from southwestern PA to NY would be a nice trip.

Hell theres always volunteering if i cant get/afford tickets.

  2. I live in WG and I have dreamed of this day. I am a dmb and Phish fan and didn’t know how I could possibly cope this summer while dmb is on vacation. I can walk the acres of WGI with a blind fold on and have dreamed of the day where I could be at a festival in my home town and dance for days. I can’t wait! Amazing!!!

  3. there has also been the rumor that it might be a re-uniting of the remaining living artists who performed at that famous original watklins glen show!
