Show Rambles On Without Helm

The common cold tends to take an average person out of action for a while, but when you suffer from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease the effects are much more serious. Yesterday, COPD sufferer Levon Helm was admitted to a New York City hospital after fighting a cold, leading the legendary drummer to miss last night’s Midnight Ramble at his studios in Woodstock according to a report by John W. Barry in the Poughkeepsie Journal.

According to the article, Helm is expected to make a full recovery. Those attending last night’s Ramble were informed about the reason for Levon’s absence by Helm’s manager, Barbara O’Brien, and were offered full refunds or the opportunity to exchange their tickets for ducats to a different Ramble.

While the number of fans who took O’Brien up on the offer is unknown, Barry reports that audience members shouted “no way” and “That’s not going to happen” after her announcement. O’Brien finished by stating, “You’re the ones who brought him back for the past seven years and we’re going to bring him back and he’s going to be back and he’s going to be back stronger. He wanted me to thank you all from the bottom of his heart.”

Levon Helm Studios Chief Engineer Justin Guip, who often spells Helm behind the kit at Midnight Rambles, played drums throughout last night’s performance. Next up for Helm is another Midnight Ramble on Saturday, December 18, with Shemekia Copeland and Alejandro Escovedo opening. We’re embracing our inner hippies to send healing vibes Levon’s way and we hope you do the same.
