Black Crowes End Tour, Start Hiatus

Last night in San Francisco, the Black Crowes wrapped up the Say Goodbye to the Bad Guys tour at The Fillmore by treating fans to five Rolling Stones covers to end the show including a four-song encore. Fittingly, The Last Time was the final song since the band will now start an “indefinite hiatus” and have left open the possibility that they may never perform together again.

Sunday’s show was the sixth of six shows at the Fillmore that brought the five-month tour to an end. At each show, the band used the encores to pay tribute to some of their influences. On December 12th, the Crowes’ encore featured Comin’ Home and Poor Elijah – Tribute to Robert Johnson from Delaney & Bonnie. The Crowes’ performance on the 14th concluded with a three-song Beatles tribute – You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away, Yer Blues and I Wanna Be Your Man.

For the December 15th gig, the Crowes went the blues standards route with Mellow Down Easy, Shake Your Moneymaker and Mean Town Blues. On Friday, the Black Crowes’ nodded to The Band’s live sets by performing an encore of Long Black Veil, Shape I’m In and Don’t Do It, while the penultimate show on Saturday contained a three-song encore of Neil Young tunes – Pardon My Heart, Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere and Ohio.

Here’s a look at last night’s setlist thanks to CrowesBase

Acoustic: Remedy, Roll Old Jeremiah, Whoa Mule, Thunderstorm 6:54, No Expectations, Tornado, Oh Josephine, She Talks To Angels, Shine Along

Electric: Space Captain, My Morning Song -> Stare It Cold, Show Me, Seeing Things, Gods Got It, Feathers, Soul Singing, Thorn In My Pride, Midnight Rambler (1st time played)

  1. I figure a year to hang out w/ family and get back to normal living. Then a year or two doing the solo thing (New Earth Mud?) and then prolly the brothers start writing tunes together again. You figure they’ll wanna record an album w/ those new tunes. That whole writing and recording is another year in the bag. I predict a four year hiatus…five at the most. Since the group is “going out’ on top I think the desire to regroup and make more great music will be too much to resist for too long. Here’s hoping I’m right!

  2. Just my two cents here but Ive never been a real big crowes fan. I think the fact that actual brothers cant get over petty differences to bring their fans (im not one of them) solid music is well annoying. I know all bands go through this but I honestly dont care if they come back together or not. Again jut my opinion but they dont have the merchandise, live records, side bands, etc to sustain their standard of living so I bet they come back for money not knocking them everyone needs to get paid and live.imo. Their are so many other bands and musicians I would like to see come back that these guys dont even make my top 25. No disrespect intended

  3. To be honest, the reply from Kyle couldn’t be further from the truth! What a loser!(just my opinion) I’m a huge Crowes fan because they definitely ARE one of the best live bands in the world right now! Sorry Kyle, but I’d hate to see your top 25 bands!(I bet Nickelback is in his top 10)I do agree with Scott on the 4 or 5 years though. It’s sad to see them go!
