What Is It About April 2nd? – LCD Soundsystem @ MSG / UMBowl II

While the Packers take on the Steelers in the Super Bowl, our thoughts at Hidden Track headquarters turn to April 2nd thanks to two big announcements that came down this weekend. Yesterday, we found out LCD Soundsystem will part ways after a final show at Madison Square Garden, while Umphrey’s announced the date and city (Chicago) of UMBowl II.

Early on Saturday, a couple of astute NYC music fans spotted posters advertising LCD Soundsystem’s “Last Show” at MSG on April 2nd and quickly alerted the rest of the internets starting with Brooklyn Vegan. LCD front man James Murphy had made no bones about his plans to break up the project after a lengthy tour supporting This Is Happening. Once the posters were spotted, the band’s website was updated with an official announcement

good people of earth:
lcd soundsystem are playing madison square garden on april 2nd, and it will be our last show ever. we are retiring from the game. gettin’ out. movin’ on. but for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly 3 hours-playing stuff we’ve never played before and going out with a bang. and we’d like you to be there.

if you would, we’d love it if people all came in white. or black. or black and white. and come ready to have fun, please. and come early, as the festivities will be opened by our favorites, liquid liquid. yes: liquid liquid.

if it’s a funeral, let’s have the best funeral ever!!!

general onsale february 11th at bowerypresents.com and ticketmaster.com. check lcd website and pitchfork for fan pre-sale mid week, details posted on tuesday 8th.

We do love the thought of LCD Soundsystem throwing down for three hours filled with never before played material at the perfect venue for the group’s Swan Song. Keep your eyes on @MSGEConcerts for a pre-sale code.

At halftime of today’s game, HT faves Umphrey’s McGee updated its website and sent out a tweet teasing this year’s UM Bowl. UM Bowl II will take place in Chicago on April 2nd and for now that’s all the information that has been announced. We’ll keep you posted on any further details.
