Next Thursday, February 24th, Phish archivist Kevin Shapiro and Grateful Dead legacy manager David Lemieux will both participate in an open discussion moderated by Music Industry Professor Toby Seay at the Stein Auditorium on the campus of Drexel University in Philadelphia. Kevin and David will discuss how they’ve managed the massive recordings and holdings of their archives including the types of recordings and conditions of their collections, how their bands make decisions about preservation and releases and what impact technology is having on their work, among other topics.
Seay, a veteran recording engineer, will present a podcast with select, released tracks chosen by David and Kevin of performances by each band in Philadelphia along with a discussion on why these tracks were released that will be available to stream via this website on Wednesday, February 23rd, between 3 and 7PM. Next Thursday’s lecture is free and open to the public.

I hope the professor will ask Kevin Shapiro about a Big Cypress release date.
This begs the question of what will Kevin dig out of the Philly archives. I’d hope for the Mike’s>Mango>Paug, a rotation jam, or the Bowie->Possum from 12.3.97 off the top of my head.
@hans – YES! Can’t believe we’re on year 11 of waiting for that
@mainegabe – The press release says “released” material, so don’t expect any unreleased goodies 🙁
Definitely pumped for this, I’ll be there for sure. Shapiro wouldn’t be doing philly proper without the ’99 Boogie>Sally>Ghost>2001>DWD
HILARIOUS:
I hope the professor will ask Kevin Shapiro about a Big Cypress release date.
@ Scott – Oh well. I should of noticed that. I’ll take the WOTC or Theme from 2.25.03 then.
Anyone going to be there to tape for those who can’t make it?
Did anyone catch this?
Oh it’s streaming from the site on demand.. excellent
