Videos: Furthur’s Abbey Road Adventure

When Phil Lesh and Friends took over the Beacon Theatre for a seven-show run in October 2000, the band tipped its proverbial hat to The Beatles by covering a different Fab Four (or Lennon) song each night. “The Q” covered Imagine, Tomorrow Never Knows, Revolution, Come Together, Strawberry Fields Forever, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, She Said She Said and Get Back over the course of the run.

Phil’s current band, Furthur, took a lesson from those Beacon shows and has been performing one song from Abbey Road – in sequence – each night. For instance, at the tour’s first gig in Boston on March 4 Furthur opened the show with Abbey Road’s first track – Come Together. The next night, Phil and Bobby’s band threw down Something as the second song followed by Maxwell’s Silver Hammer as the third song at the third Boston show and so on. Last night at the Best Buy in NYC, the fifth show of the tour, the ensemble continued the trend by covering Octopus’s Garden as the fifth song of the evening. I think we can safely say I Want You (She’s So Heavy) will be the sixth song tonight at the Best Buy.

We’ve put together a playlist of Furthur videos for a look at how the band has interpreted the songs of Abbey Road thus far. Please note the first video is audio only, but there’s video footage of the rest…
