Friday Mix Tape: Instrumental Insight

For my first ever Friday Mix Tape, I thought what better idea than to help unwind after a crazy week of work than a simplistic session of instrumental tunes? If you live in New York City (or any major city) like I do, and constantly have the feeling of sensory overload due to work or if you’re simply as naturally hyper as a kangaroo jacked up on cocaine, there is no greater relief than simply being able to let go after a strenuous week. So, ladies and gents, I present to you my all instrumental, personal playlist.

The tracks include some well known crushers by Led Zeppelin (Bron-Yr-Aur) and Herbie Hancock (Chameleon), some lesser known gems like a huge Beatles Medley performed by Booker T. & The M.G.’s (Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End/Here Comes The Sun/Come Together), all while being book-ended – with a middle sliver – of Perpetual Groove (Life, The Universe and And Everything). Toss in a Phishy bubble of bliss (Albert), a raging jam by String Cheese Incident (Land’s End) and my favorite opening number by Steve Kimock (Cole’s Law), throw ’em all in a blender, pour over ice, sip the contents and you get my take on what this Friday should be all about.

Straight from my brain, which most likely consists of part crayola crayon, a constant, zooming racetrack of synapse firing and nine sporting events going on at once, along with the occasional writer’s thought out on the page, this Friday I invite close your eyes, open your ears and delve deep into the most basic form of musical communication where the instruments do all the talking. After all, if you talk as much as I do, this playlist should serve as a reminder that sometimes the best things are, well, better left…unsaid.
