The second “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” of the summer will take place at Chicago’s Lakeside, located on the south shore of Lake Michigan, just a short distance from downtown Chicago. Details of the three-day festival, scheduled for July 8, 9 and 10, were announced today at a press conference held at the site. The event will feature a diverse lineup of musical talent performing on three stages during the day and a full set by headliners Dave Matthews Band each night – the group’s only performances in the Midwest this year.

“Dave Matthews Band Caravan” will be the first event ever held at Lakeside, where the panoramic vista of downtown Chicago across the waters will provide a stunning backdrop to the festivities. Attendees can easily access Lakeside by Metra train, CTA Red Line, bus, bicycle and car. There is ample onsite parking and a carpool program will be available to help connect those who would like to share a ride. Chicago Lakeside Development, LLC previously announced an ambitious redevelopment plan to transform the site into a vibrant, LEED-Neighborhood Development certified community, based on the principles of smart growth, urbanism and green building, and distinguished by large open spaces, excellent connectivity and access to public transportation/bike paths.

In addition to Dave Matthews Band, the lineup for the Chicago Lakeside “Caravan” will includeDavid Gray, Ray LaMontagne, O.A.R., Kid Cudi, The Flaming Lips performing Dark Side of the Moon, Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, Amos Lee, Emmylou Harris, Ben Folds, G. Love & Special Sauce, Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings, Gomez, Drive-By Truckers, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Daniel Lanois’ Black Dub, The Jayhawks, Soja, Soulive, The Wailers, Blind Pilot, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, TR3, Vieux Farka Toure, Alberta Cross, Mariachi El Bronx, Bobby Long, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, Jeff Coffin’s Mu’tet, Gary Clark Jr., and the SUMMER CAMP SATURDAY STAGE, featuring artists who will also be appearing at this year’s Summer Camp Music Festival(http://www.summercampfestival.com/). The Lakeside “Caravan” will also feature special performances by Dave Matthews Band members Carter Beauford and Stefan Lessard plus a Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds acoustic set. Additional acts will be announced soon and a full festival schedule will be released.

Dave Matthews Band – comprising Carter Beauford (drums), Stefan Lessard (bass), Dave Matthews (vocals, guitar) and Boyd Tinsley (violin)  – is taking the year off from touring, so theCaravans will be its only performances of 2011. The first “Dave Matthews Band Caravan” will take place at Bader Field in Atlantic City, NJ on June 24, 25 and 26. Details on the remaining two festivals will be announced soon.

The group was the biggest ticket seller worldwide of the past decade. Dave Matthews Band has sold over 17 million tickets since its inception, playing to over a million people in 2010 alone. Their latest studio album, Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King (RCA), debuted at No. 1 on The Billboard 200 in June of 2009, making Dave Matthews Band one of only two groups in chart history to have five consecutive studio albums enter atop the chart. The record, which paid tribute to founding member/saxophonist LeRoi Moore, who passed away in August of 2008, was subsequently certified Platinum and nominated for a GRAMMY® for “Album of the Year.” The band has sold a collective 37 million CDs and DVDs combined.

  2. Ah there is always a catch more corporate sponsors. Citi card is the official card. I wonder what large corps have there hooks in phish. At least they dont put it directly in your face. Anyone know what big corporations are sponsoring superball IX
