Moogis: No Wanee Webcast, No Refunds Yet

Here’s what Butch had to say…

We have been working very hard to raise the funds needed to cover the shortfall from subscriptions. We thought we had it covered and the main reason we have waited this late to let everyone know was we only got the response from the sponsor we were counting on yesterday. Until yesterday we were still hopeful that we could pull this off. It has been mentioned that I need to give a full explanation of what has happened and what we are planning. That I will do next week. I need to clear the mess out of my head and write with a bit more reason than I am feeling right now. One thing I would like to point out to some of you that felt the need to totally flame Moogis and me specifically is that all of you who purchased the ’09 run were told that you would have those 15 shows VOD for one year. It has been over two years and they are still up. Same thing for the United Palace shows. What you purchased ran out the first of March but they are still up as well as the Wanee shows from last year. This year’s Beacon run will be up for at least a year and probably longer. I am personally making sure of that. No one is trying to rip anyone off. We simply ran out of funds and, more importantly, we ran out of time.

As big fans of watching great concerts from our couch, we really wanted to see Moogis succeed. While the future of the company is unclear, it certainly doesn’t look bright. We do hope, and it appears they will from Butch’s message, that Moogis finds a way to make it up to the subscribers who believed in the service enough to pay for the Wanee webcast months before the event. We’d also suggest that the company updates Moogis.com to reflect the current situation.

  1. The Moogis folks had the right idea but their price point is sooo out of whack w/ competitors like iClips that it does not surprise me that it is about to fail. Apparently the folks running things at Moogis don’t understand economies of scale because I guarantee if they’d of offered those Allman beacon shows for $5-$10/night instead of $25 they would have sold a bunch more ‘tickets’. And don’t even get me started with the $250 price point for the whole run.

    Long live iClips!!

  2. But if you lower the price point too much it becomes a disincentive to people to actually attend the shows. Same reason as NFL blackout rule

  3. Sounds like you want your subscribers to invest in your company by “leaving” their money! That is not a 20% discount situation- you are asking them to invest so don’t get confused bro!

  4. Well it is easy to get the full refund, call your CC up and tell them you are disputing the charge, there is no way Moogis will win that battle. This is very shady to say the least. Glad I never gave any money to them.

  5. Tell you what, I am going on a beer run. Every one throw in 25 bucks and I will come back with some tremendously heady (no pun intended) beers for us to get ripped on. Huge party will ensue.

Sorry but I never got off my couch, but next time I see you, if ever, I will give you one, single BUT ice cold Coors Light.

  6. >> But if you lower the price point too much it becomes a disincentive to people to actually attend the shows

The NFL only blacks out the game in the local market to encourage folks to attend the game. I could maybe understand charging a premium for the webcast in NY and NJ to incent attendance (maybe even blacking out the webcast in those areas if the concert that night wasn’t a sell out) but for the rest of the country there was no way we were gonna be able to make it to those concerts. Who knows how many more folks would have bought the webcast at a lower price. I know I would have bought a few nights.

Moogis has always had an unacceptable price point IMO and the fact that they are about to go under proves I wasn’t the only one who felt this way because had they provided a service that people thought was a good value they would have sold a lot more webcasts and probably still be a viable company.

  7. I think a free or cheap lower quality and a more expensive HD version is the way to go, just like how all of the bands sell their recordings on mp3 for less than FLAC. Also, a model that would allow on demand or permanent downloads for a percentage more would work. But never will I shell out $25 per show. $40 for the phish NYE run was priced right, and I would have spent more than that for on demand or downloads as well.

  8. What about the people who decided to get the webcast and now can’t?People could have made plans to get there if Moogis had canceled with a week to go.3 days before the event you cancel, really! I would have been able to catch a ride down to the festival with some friends who went had I known sooner!!! What other shows are offered that are coming up? Why would we even subscribe now that fans have a trust issue with Moogis and supplying the services they offer! While I understand the financial problem Moogis has, the way this was handled was not professional and really stinks. A lot of fans are feeling really screwed over bye someone we trust.i be satisfied if they would just stream the audio.BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

  9. This really makes iclips look good doesn’t it? I mean there fests are mostly free and I would pay 10-15 bucks for most of them!

  10. I paid full price for both concerts in advance. I have to admit, I loved the NY Beacon run 2011. I was very disappointed Wanee Festival was cancelled. I have had contact with Jonathan Blank, Moogis, ([email protected]) but have not had any positive news regarding my refund for the Wanee Festival. I have attempted to work something out that was equal to what they owe me, but again, nothing. I don’t want to leave my money with them, but what choice do I have? One person suggested calling my CC to dispute the charge. What is a CC? There is something seriously wrong here. They should have known in advance there were not enough subscriptions to afford to run both venues. I love the ABB, but I feel I am being ripped off. Joe

  11. Does anyone have a copy of the original advertisement for the Beacon Run Festival and the Wanee Festival as it was shown on-line? I failed to make a copy and am trying to get a price breakdown for each festival and the increased fee for subscribing late. I seem to think it cost $100 for the Wanee Festival webcast. If you can confirm, and if you have a copy of the original advertisement, please e-mail me a copy. Thanks, Joe
