While technically Bob Dylan doesn’t turn 70 until May 24, it’s my turn in the Mix Tape rotation, so I thought I’d use this opportunity to do a little early celebrating. With 34 studio albums to his credit there is no shortage of material to choose from, from arguably one of the most influential musicians of all time. While I’m not claiming that this is the definitive Dylan playlist, I’ve decide to highlight some of my personal favorite tunes from Mr. Zimmerman that range from some of the obvious essentials to a few deeper cuts that you may have missed. So sit back, enjoy and play it loud.
We’ve got quite the meaty playlist this week so I’ll give you the short, short version of what we’ve got, as it features 12 tracks from 11 Dylan albums, showing the breadth of his ever-changing sound and style from the early ’60s straight on up to 1989’s Oh Mercy.
