Friday Mix Tape: Atypical Hurricane Mix

Hurricane Irene is bearing down on the East Coast as we speak, so for this week’s Friday Mix Tape we thought it only fitting to focus on hurricane/storm-themed songs. However, instead of using the original versions of the songs you’d expect to find on this mix, we’ve gone with covers to switch it up a little bit.

We start with The Ramones’ take on the CCR classic Have You Ever Seen The Rain? From there, we’ve got Dave Matthews guesting with Agents of Good Roots in 1997 on Riders On The Storm. Next, Phish gives us a one-timer from 1985 – their unplugged version of Bob Dylan’s Hurricane. You knew we’d have to include Rock You Like A Hurricane, so we went with Green Day performing The Scorpions’ classic tune.

Before Jerry died, the Grateful Dead busted out a cover of Rain by The Beatles and the version in this mix comes from Buckeye Lake in ’94. Because “time goes by like hurricanes,” we’ve included Brock Butler’s acoustic take of Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More. Finally, we’ve taken a trip to the Jamband Graveyard, where we found The Samples’ cover of Like A Hurricane by Neil Young. Give it a spin and stay safe this weekend.
