Umphrey’s McGee Remix Contest

Chicago-based sextet Umphrey’s McGee released their latest studio album, Death By Stereo, last month and are giving fans a chance to add their own spin to four tracks from that LP. UM has teamed up with the 600,000-strong Indaba community to create a remix contest in which the winners can win $1,000 per track, have their remix included on a forthcoming Death By Stereo remix EP, get a pair of tickets to the Umphrey’s concert of their choice and a autographed copy of the album.

All in all, there are four different contests – one a piece for each track (Deeper, Domino Theory, Miami Virtue and Booth Love). To enter, head over to the Indaba website to download either the free basic stems package or for more control purchase the $6.99 advanced stems package which includes 20-30 uncompressed audio files from the original recording sessions. Use these stems to create your remix for one or multiple tracks and upload your work to Indaba on the contest(s) pages anytime before November 16.

Umphrey’s fans will be able to vote for their favorite remixes between Nov. 16 and Nov. 30, though the final call will go the band members. Visit the Indaba/Umphrey’s Death By Stereo contest page for full details. While I’m no master remixer, I am excited to download the stems to get a handle on the fine details that went into each musicians’ parts.
