Wilco Expands Upcoming Chicago Run

HT faves Wilco don’t play their hometown of Chicago all that often these days, but when they do hit The Windy City, they certainly make it count. Following a career-spanning five-night residency at the Riviera Theater in 2008 where they played every song they’d ever released on a studio album, Wilco will play a total of four shows (as of now) in Chicago from December 12 – 16 at four different venues.

The action starts on December 12 at the Civic Opera House, a 3,563-seat capacity venue that is the second largest opera auditorium in North America. On December 13, Wilco will move to the Riviera Theatre, which holds about 2,300. Jeff Tweedy and Co. continue their sweep through Chicago on December 15 at the intimate Vic Theatre and finish off the run on December 16 for a just announced performance at the 1,150-capacity Metro.

While tickets to the first three shows have already sold out, ducats for the Metro go on sale at 10AM CT on Saturday, October 15. There’s a strict two ticket limit and all tickets must be picked up at will call.

  1. The incredible shrinking tour! I remember in 1994 when WXRT in Chicago sponsored John Hiatt’s ‘Incredible Shrinking Tour’. He started at the Riv, played the Park West and then the legendary Lounge Ax (then managed by the future wife of Jeff Tweedy)…. they ended the tour with a charity event at Schuba’s (then managed by a friend of mine).

I have NO DOUBT that this tour influenced Wilco (Tweedy) to their own version….
