Video: Mayer Hawthorne – The Walk

We’ve got to hand it to the folks in Detroit. When fans found out that Canadian rockers Nickelback were set to perform at Ford Field during halftime of the Detroit Lions’ annual Thanksgiving Day game, they were none too happy, especially given the city’s rich musical history. In fact, one fan started an online petition, which received over 52,000 signatures, to have them replaced. While there are any number of more appropriate acts that deserve the spot, if the Lions wanted to go with a contemporary act that has a sound that is rooted in Motown, they could have turned to a guy who is now openly campaigning for the slot – Mayer Hawthorne. The Ann Arbor, MI native, who released his third studio album How Do You Do last month, puts a contemporary spin on the classic soul sound that defined Motor City.
