The following statement may not be that revelatory to a portion of our reading audience, but 2011 will clearly be remembered as the year that EMD (electronic dance music) finally broke through to the mainstream with acts like Skrillex, Deadmau5 and David Guetta leading the charge. Among the “breakout” acts of the year that you should know about is M83, who released their sixth studio album Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming this fall, which debuted at number 15 on the Billboard charts. The France-based band, which is the brainchild of Anthony Gonzalez, draws influence from fellow like-minded French acts like Air, Daft Punk and Phoenix. This spring M83 will cross the pond for a 22-date North American club tour, which kicks off with a two-night stand at the historic Fillmore in San Francisco on April 22 and 23, and also includes a stop at New York’s cavernous Terminal 5 on May 10.
If you’re not into a night of electro-dream-pop from M83, then maybe you’ll be interested in hitting one of these recently announced tours…
