Pullin’ ‘Tubes: Lana Del Rey Is Born To Die

Other than the multitudes of “Best Of” lists that have been flooding the internet in recent weeks, the other big story that has seemed to co-op a good number of sights out there has been all the buzz surrounding the 24-year-old singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey, who is looking to become the first break out act of 2012. Back in August, Del Rey, whose real name is Lizzy Grant, got a major publicity bump for her first self-released single Video Games, when influential music site Pitchfork anointed it with the Best New Track distinction, helping to launch the hype machine for the unsigned singer. In the  subsequent months the pouty-lipped Del Ray, who describes herself as a “gansta Nancy Sinatra”, and her genre as “Hollywood pop/ sadcore”, (think a more pop friendly Nicole Atkins), has built up a full head of steam with a sound that appeals to both indie-music lovers, and a more straight ahead pop audience.

Del Rey, who has greatly benefited from social media’s ability to help break new artists, recently played a handful of buzzed about sold out shows both here and abroad, appeared on the U.K. talk show Later With Jools Holland and will release her major label debut Born To Die on January 31, via Interscope Records. Last week, Del Rey released the video for her upcoming record’s title track, which has already garnered over two million plus views on YouTube. Let’s check it out…

Earlier today it was announced that Lana Del Rey will make her U.S. television debut on Saturday Night Live’s January 14 episode with Daniel Radcliffe set to host.
