Trailer and Excerpt: Basically Frightened – The Musical Madness of Colonel Bruce Hampton

A new documentary called Basically Frightened: The Musical Madness of Colonel Bruce Hampton produced, directed and edited by Michael Koepenick aims to peel back the layers of intrigue and mystery surrounding jam scene father figure Colonel Bruce Hampton. Koepenick speaks with some of the many musicians who credit Hampton with a part of their success including Billy Bob Thornton, Dave Matthews, Peter Buck and members of Phish, Widespread Panic, Blues Traveler and The Grateful Dead for the film, which is set to make its debut at The Atlanta Film Festival on March 30.

    No idea they were making this! I can’t hardly wait to see it.
    I’ve always loved the Colonel and his musical genius and ability to get the best out of all the musicians around him.

    ‘Music to Eat’ from the Hampton Grease band remains one of my all time favorite albums and not to mention the best written liner notes of any album ever released. Strenturgently!
