Metric’s Emily Haines Lands January Tour

Last Gang Records has announced tour dates for Toronto songstress Emily Haines. The 19-day tour will kick off January 4th at Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall and wraps up January 23rd at the El Rey in Los Angeles. Since the anticipated release of her solo debut, KNIVES DON’T HAVE YOUR BACK, the Metric frontwoman and oft-member of Broken Social Scene has performed nine sold-out shows in Toronto (3 sets), Montreal, San Francisco, New York (2 sets) and Los Angeles (2 sets), garnering raves for her intimate performances.

For her January dates, Haines will be joined by select members of The Soft Skeleton–her backing band and fellow collaborators on the record–Sparklehorse’s Scott Minor will be on drums and New York-based musician Paul Dillon will moonlight on bass. Collaborators on the album include Minor, Jimmy Shaw (Broken Social Scene/Metric), Stars’ Evan Cranley and Chris Seligman and Broken Social Scene’s Justin Peroff, among others. Also at the shows, audience members can expect to see short films by Guy Maddin projected on stage. As he did for Haines’ Fall performances, Maddin–known for recreating the style of the silent-film era–will put together short montages from his past work for each of Emily’s songs on KNIVES.

Though promoting her solo work has kept her busy, Haines continues to maintain a packed schedule with Metric, spending much of her Fall on the road with the band. Currently, the four-piece is on a sold-out tour of the UK which includes a big stop at London’s Hammersmith Palais on October 31st. Additional European touring this month has included stops in Iceland, Germany, Turkey, and Greece. Upon returning to Canada, Metric will begin work on their follow-up to 2005’s critical success Live it Out (Last Gang Records), while Emily will look forward to the release of KNIVES in the UK, Europe and Japan in early 2007.
