For over a year, rumors have been flying about just how The Rolling Stones would celebrate their 50th Anniversary in 2012. At first, chatter pointed towards a full world tour, and there was even some talk of former members Bill Wyman (bass) and Mick Taylor (lead guitar) coming back into the fold for it. But last month we found out Mick and Keith decided to table a possible tour until 2013 for a variety of reasons. Well today there’s a new wrinkle as Rolling Stone has revealed that the Stones are considering “at least one live concert this year to mark their 50th anniversary.”
The band will hold a meeting in July to discuss “live performance possibilities.” The RS article also confirms that the Stones played together in the New York City area back in April…
The Stones blasted through classics including “Beast of Burden,” “Respectable,” “Fool to Cry” and “Gimme Shelter.” “We played everything, really,” says Richards. “We’re just getting our chops together. It was like playing in the garage, a maintenance check, you know?”
Intrepid Stones fans caught wind of the rehearsals and thought that Mick Jagger’s appearance on Saturday Night Live would feature the whole band and an announcement of a tour. That wasn’t to be, but we’re happy to hear the Stones did work off some of the rust accumulated after a five year hiatus. Meanwhile, a potential new album and the 2013 tour will also be on the agenda for the July meeting. We hope they do play a show this year and invite Taylor and Wyman to participate.
