After cranking up the new video from Brooklyn afrobeat vets Antibalas for the first time last night, my wife overheard just a few seconds of the song from the other room before she asked, “Are you watching Latin Napoleon Dynamite?” While that’s a compliment and near perfect summary of the new sound, the video takes a bit of a different direction. Instead of anti-heroes, tetherball and ham-eating llamas, Antibalas opts for puppets and the global financial crisis. We’ve seen some good Wall Street themed music videos as of late, but this one might be the best yet.
After focusing their efforts for the past five years on the Broadway production of Fela!, Antibalas returns to regular action with a new album dropping on August 7th and a full tour to support.
