Bloggy Goodness: Wilco Treats Fallon to Loose Fur

Last night HT faves Wilco concluded their three-night New York City run with a dare we say epic 28-song marathon show at Terminal 5. The gig saw the band dig deep into their catalog to pull out gems like A Magazine Called Sunset, Too Far Apart, Candyfloss and a show-closing take on the Being There track The Lonely 1. Prior to all that though, Jeff Tweedy & Co. stopped by Studio 6B in Rockefeller Plaza for their first-ever appearance on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, where they performed not one, but two songs. For their on-air tune they went with Art Of Almost, the twisting psychedelic rocker from their most recent record The Whole Love. The band then dipped into their bag of tricks for a web-exclusive performance, busting out Loose Fur’s Laminated Cat (aka Not For The Season), the lead track on the Jeff Tweedy and Jim O’Rouke project’s self-titled debut. Wilco’s summer tour continues tomorrow night, as they will open this year’s Newport Folk Festival with their Folk Friday show with Blitzen Trapper and Megafaun at Fort Adams State Park for which tickets are still available.

Finally, 2012 marks the 45th anniversary of The Velvet Underground and Nico’s self-titled debut. Released on March 12, 1967, the record was initially more renowned for its controversial Andy Warhol cover art that featured a peel away banana skin sticker which revealed a flesh-colored banana underneath, then it was for the actual music. The album, which is now considered one of the more influential records of all time, will receive a massive six-disc reissue to honor its legacy via Universal Records. Hitting stores on October 1, the set features both stereo and mono versions of the album, along with alternate takes, live recordings and cuts from practice sessions as well as a copy of Nico’s solo debut Chelsea Girl.
