Stormy Mondays: Celebrate Jerry’s 70th w/ Classic JGB

As you probably already know, on Wednesday of this week Jerry Garcia would have turned 70 years old. He left us far too early, at far too young an age, particularly when you consider all that his GD bandmates have done in the intervening years. Rather than celebrating the date with something new, though, I thought I would repost links to all of the past JGB/Garcia Kahn editions of Stormy Monday.

On the acoustic front, earlier this summer I posted 1/27/86 at The Ritz, a wonderful show and recording that was a staple for me back in my cassette days; and also 5/5/82 at Salem’s Oregon State Prison, a super tight show with a nice Train to Cry and a brilliant Reuben and Cerise. On the electric front, the end of the second set from 3/18/78 has not only good versions of Cats and I’ll Be With Thee, but a monster Lonesome and a Long Way From Home, plus one of only two performances of Palm Sunday. 6/18/82 at the Cape Cod Coliseum is a sterling set (Pt. 1, Pt. 2 and Encore), my all time favorite JGB performance, especially the Dear Prudence and the closing run of Don’t Let Go, Simple Twist and Run for the Roses (plus a TLEO encore). If you don’t have this, consider it required listening; and finally a really cool, expansive four song first set from 3/10/84, with a heart stopping Dear Prudence > Tangled Up in Blue. Such great, great music. Celebrate a life, and as always, enjoy!
