Audio: Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones Thank You Organ Solo

While Robert Plant, John Bonham and Jimmy Page get most of the attention when it comes to Led Zeppelin, we consider ourselves John Paul Jones aficionados around these parts. Not only is he an incredible bass player, but he’s got ridiculous skills on a number of other instruments including organ.

Thanks to redditor El_Motor we came across audio of an outstanding, improvised solo that led into Thank You at the Showgrounds in Sydney, Australia on February 27th, 1972…

  1. I cut my teeth on live Zeppelin bootlegs as a teenager in the 80s, but I have to admit that’s some over-indulgent rock-God kinda stuff right there. I always peg 1975 and especially 1977 shows as over-indulgent (I remember a 45 minute version of No Quarter from ’77, with Page doing that violin bow stuff for what seemed like EVER – that one song took up both side of an LP. That’s right, bootleg vinyl. Ahh, the good ‘ol days…)
