Edie Brickell

 Volcano

One strum of a guitar and then Edie Brickell’s voice breaks through and is as familiar as if ten years hadn’t passed since her last album release. Her new album entitled Volcano is a great accompaniment to any home while cooking a meal or a road trip as the sun’s setting. The lyrics are simple, some even slightly immature with songs like "More Than Friends," where Edie sings about wanting to be more than friends with her subject. But even with these lyrics the music carries you through a wonderful album of non-attached, reflective music somewhere between folky and bluesy. It may not be an album that you feel you just have to own, but if you do, I'm certain you'll be listening plenty. The last track is worth owning in itself, a beautiful story that reminds us of the human spirit in its struggle and loneliness.
