Pete Belasco

 Deeper

If your guilty pleasure music is reserved for grooving amongst the comfort of yourself or significant others, than perhaps you’ll dig the sensual grooves of Deeper. If not, than beware, as this second release from Pete Belasco is all sweet slippery tracks with a strong R &B/jazz flair that creates a mood – and a warm one at that. Like Marvin Gaye’s Lets Get It On, Deeper isn’t party music, it’s music for after the party- if you should be so lucky.

Where the multi-instrumentalist, Belasco explored more pop-rock and deep groove jazz on his first release, Get It Together, this latest effort is a tightly focused affair. Perhaps the only time Belasco strays from the easy listening line is on “Fools World,” when he incorporates some Curtis Mayfield styled funk grooves. But each song is honored with rich textures that flutter effortlessly from one track to the next along with Belasco’s silky vocals, breezy saxophone and smooth keyboard contributions.

Great tunes here for those looking to get lucky or chill out, otherwise Deeper won’t be your keeper.
