Tristan Prettyman’s latest, twentythree, runs within a familiar vein, dwelling on romance and living life in and out of loving moments. It’s enjoyable, as there's nothing more sappily cool than knowing you love someone who loves you back. But not every song works as well as her previous efforts. Still, you have to give kudos to a girl with ADD who lands a label, surfs and plays the guitar to meet boys despite being attractive enough to model, and land Jason Mraz as a boyfriend.
She’s a talented lyricist, with great empathy for unrequited love, rejection and awkwardness. "Shy that way" (with Mraz) coyly notes, “I'm shy, but guess what? My guy likes me that way." And there are dozens of similarly playful love lines, but occasionally, as is the case with “Electric,” she could actually do with less of those cuddly vocals, and opt to let her instrumentation take center stage.
