Caressing his Moog synthesizer with his black-coated fingernails, Jody Delli Santi, also known by his moniker Supercreep, resembles a gangsta Ric Ocasek or a clothing-restrained Liam Howlett. The “nobody’s working for the weekend” attitude of his 12 track self-titled debut is not as insightful as The Cars or as flippant as The Prodigy, but the clever mixture of classic rock guitars, new wave riffs, and rave ready beats makes for a satisfying start. The songs tangle together nicely, expressing the hopelessness and frustration of any college-age male who walks the fine line of responsibility and living by the seat of his pants in the hopes of finding some connection in this cold, cold world. Call it the musical version of The Rules of Attraction, following each of its drug-obsessed self-loathing protagonists and somehow manage to avoid their own destruction. Hopefully graduation is around the bend.
