Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison Colorado is one of the most exclusive outside venues. The beautiful surroundings seem to uplift and inspire the the bands that play there. The Dave Matthews Band captured their September 9-12, 2005 Red Rocks stint via a double disc album and concert DVD compilation, Weekend on the Rocks. The album consists primarily of tracks from their recent studio album, Stand Up, with some older material to please their faithful fans. The newer songs really transpose well into a live setting on this release and will definitely win over harsh critics of their newer material.

Some highlights of the album include excellent versions of rarities such as “Burn the Pig” and the “#34.” A cover of The Zombies, “Time of the Season,” and a strong version of “The Stone,” complete with a special crowd sing-a-long, making this release a must have for any Dave Matthews Band fan. Versions of newer songs such as “Louisiana Bayou” and “Stand Up” prove that Dave and company have the ability to mold these into crowd pleasing numbers.

The DVD captures the breathtaking views and energy of the band and crowd into an hour long concert. The highlight definitely being the version of “Louisiana Bayou” with guest Robert Randolph on pedal steel.
