CD Review

Those familiar with Chris Wood's "other band," Medeski, Martin and Wood, may be anticipating a similar experimental funk-jazz vein when he teams up with his brother Oliver, but that's not neccesarily the case. On the contrary, the brother duo come up with mostly mellow country-folk, gilded with a nice bit of blues to round out the sound. This is the album you listen to on an 80 degree day after popping yourself in the hammock with a nice, cold pitcher of lemonade.

Formally they went their own ways for a while before this collaboration, but the brothers have been playing together for quite some time. Oliver's vocals hint at David Gray occasionally, and the upright bass at Chris Wood's skilled hand, as always, is nothing short of magic. Stand-out tracks include "One More Day," "Luckiest Man" and "Chocolate on My Tongue," but they're all pretty darn good. Innovative and yet relaxing--not an easy combination to come by.
