The Benevento / Russo Duo

 Raw Horse (Japanese Import)

Duo connoisseurs hold heated debates over which incarnation of the Benevento-Russo Duo is the best. Many proclaim that the two with bassist Mike Gordon takes the cake, while others argue that the keys and drums sound best when joined by Skerik and Mike Dillon as Critters Buggin. Regardless of their great sonic experiments with other amazing musicians, nothing can compare to the Duo by themselves, or the Duo simpliciter, to get all geeky.

Raw Horse, the limited edition import from Japan, is a live show recorded at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, Colorado on May 11, 2005. The album consists of fresh takes on some standout selections from their 2005 U.S. release, Best Reason to Buy the Sun. Opening with “9x9,” things immediately warm up and jump right into the pair at their prime - a brilliant time slice of Duo history. Whether it's dancing, moodscapes, intellectual compostions, or plain rock and roll, The Duo serve up their finest here, satiating even the most demanding musical palate. Pristine versions of Duo classics with the added edge of a live show make this rarity a valuable addition to any listening repertoire.
