So you all know what this review is gonna start with: the one thing that is closest to Half-handed Cloud’s heart, the one thing that puts that huge smile on his face no matter what mood he’s in, that one thing that is omni-present and all-reaching. That’s right: his omnichord. Feeling tricked? You have every right to be mad. Long time listeners were no doubt looking for a huge G! O! D! reference following such descriptors and while there’s plenty of loving for the man upstairs, the omnichord is front and center on this 30 minute, 9 song little gem of a record. The songs are short, happy, and drenched in omnichord and Ringhofer’s childish voice. Banjos roll into some songs, xylophones enter others, and some are just left to the basic instruments one finds in traditional bands.
Sure, Ringhofer loves Jesus, but so does George Bush and do we hold that against him? Well, technically yes. But the point is, no matter which God you’re praying to or fighting for, Ringhofer’s happy as hell to sing about the one he loves. Perhaps the best indication that this album is truly unique is that when it was loaded into iTunes, the genre that it fell into was ‘Unclassifiable.’
