Kimya Dawson

 Remember That I Love You

Dawson’s approach to song-writing is pretty simple: pick up the guitar off the floor, strum 4 chords while listening to whatever numerous voices are streaming through her head, give voice to those voices, press RECORD. Such a method could spell ultimate disaster for some singers, but seeing as Dawson’s stream of consciousness approach is so down right entertaining, Remember That I Love You is a grand success.

Fans looking for some Moldy Peaches insanity will have to wait ‘til Dawson gets back together with Mr. Green, for this album is more blunt honesty than genre-bending insanity. But such lack of grand spectacles shouldn’t stop you from spending at least a few nights wrapped around this tiny gem.

Lyrically, Dawson is truly all over the place; from getting a tattoo on her ass to warn people not to put her in a casket, to talking about Joey never meeting a bike he didn’t like to ride. While the bulk of the album is Dawson with her guitar, behind each song there hides conspicuous piano notes, drowsy whistlers, lonely drums, and drunk violins.
