Ani DiFranco

There’s little doubt that the power of the performance captured on this live album was as overwhelmingly emotional as described in the liner notes. However, as a representation of that alleged “ecstatic vibrancy,” it fails horribly. Aside from being a tinny recording, as has become all too common, Ms. DiFranco just simply talks too much. If that’s not bad enough, she has one too many spoken word pieces in the performance that just seem more cheesy with each passing album. Each time she starts up one of those over-emotive staccato poems, its as if she’s forgotten not to take herself too seriously.

If you’re still into what Ani is doing, you’re better off trying to catch one of her shows than using this record as a lasting substitute.
