Darker My Love

 Darker My Love

Darker My Love’s self-titled ponymous debut album, is a distortion-filled, lo-fi album with many hallmarks of early 90’s grunge, complemented by older, steadier sounds. The music is dark, though never fully swinging into territory largely unfilled since Alice in Chains. It echoes with some of the same raw energy of early Nirvana, though without the seeming urgency Cobain brought forward. Some of the simple chord progressions remind the listener of Joy Division, with general hints of psychedelic rock.

Indeed, perhaps the biggest downfall of this debut by Darke My Love is its failure to update the sounds described above. It is easy to imagine Darker My Love playing in a dingy basement, honing a sound that may someday develop into a full-fledged, unique voice– but which, for now, is merely an empty echo of earlier, more imaginative bands.
