The Nashville collective know as Lambchop has created some of the Music City’s most interesting projects. With this most recent release from Kurt Wagner and company, yet another masterpiece has been formed. It's a bit more pensive, but the maple syrup pace of Damaged helps to create the seductive nature of the contemplative tracks.
Wagner, joined by as many as 17 musicians throughout the project, swims through gorgeous string arrangements while signing about relationships (“A Day without Glasses”), the downward spiral of society (“The Decline of Country and Western Civilization”) and even manages to sneak in stories of colorful childhood acid trips (“Beers before the Barbican”). Still, with all that, it's certain the Nashville music execs will overlook it. But for those who do discover it - Damaged is destined to be one of the most intriguing albums of the year.
