Honkytonk Homeslice is the acoustic trio consisting of String Cheese Incident’s guitarist and vocalist Bill Nershi; his wife, Jillian Nershi; and multi-instrumentalist, Scott Law. It's a project that initially began with the Nershis performing around campfires, and after the suggestion of friends, they decided to take the show out on the road. After a couple of years of touring as a duo, they recruited songwriter Scott Law from Portland, Oregon to record a 13 song self-titled debut showcasing a smooth blend of Americana-folk with hints of bluegrass.
The opening track, “Shot in the Blue,” features Law and Jillian on vocals with Bill sprinkling some dobro throughout. Bill’s “Weary Homesick Blues,” entails great songwriting and blistering flat-picking along with Jillian's subtle harmonies. A fine rendition of String Cheese Incident’s, "Big Compromise," showcases all three members harmonizing over delicate guitar and mandolin. And "School Bells," an enchanting duet between husband and wife, hits with a funky groove that will make you wish Honkytonk Homeslice was more than just a “side” project.
