Animal Collective Playing Three Album Release Shows

After spending months in South America and the U.K., Animal Collective is returning to the U.S. for a total of three shows, Jan. 20-23, to celebrate its new album, named after, of all things, an amphitheatre.

The noise rock band with the constantly shuffling lineup is releasing in January its ninth studio album, Merriweather Post Pavilion. There happens to be an amphitheatre of that name near Baltimore, where the avant-garde musicians grew up.

The band currently consists of Avey Tare (David Portner), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), Deakin (Josh Dibb), and Geologist (Brian Weitz), with Lennox coming into his own as a solo musician.

The three shows celebrating the album are Jan. 20 at NYC's Grand Ballroom Jan. 22 at Chicago's Metro/Smart Bar and Jan. 23 at Los Angeles' Music Box @ Fonda.

The shows come on the heels of a November jaunt to Chile, Brazil and Peru, and an early January visit to England, France, Belgium and Germany.
