Following up the soulful, boogie-rock of their last album Armed Love, The International Noise Conspiracy pick up where they left off with The Cross of My Calling. This time around they are opting for a slightly more psychedelic rock sound on the spacey, retro opening “Intro” which leads into the tighter “The Assassination Of Myself” which sounds like fellow Swedes - The Soundtrack Of Our Lives. But the timeless rock urgency TINC mastered is abundant in the glorious “Dustbins Of History.”
Perhaps the biggest asset the group brings is a freshness and verve to rather older-sounding styles, whether it’s the somewhat funked-up “Hiroshima Mon Amour,” the Stones-light “Satan Made The Deal” or the slow-dance of “Boredom Of Safety.” Striking gold with Rick Rubin again, this band again produces another winner.
