Blackfeet Braves

The five piece LA based Psych-Pop outfit Blackfeet Braves has crafted a genre gem with their new self-titled release.  From the slinky guitar solos on disk opener “Mystic Rabbit” the band instantly displays their love and prowess of mid to late sixties warbled pop.  While “Trippin’ Like I Do” isn’t as “far-out-man” as the name suggests; think more Electric Prunes then Grateful Dead, as they keep their shimmering sounds short and not so adventurous.  “Misery Loves Company” is a solid piece of nostalgia rock while “Strange Lovers” hints at a Doors-like darkness.

Tracks like “Oh So Fine” with its plunking/strumming swing, the swirling mini freak-out of “Cloud 9” and echo laced goodness of “Vicious Cycle” would all be perfectly at home on the classic Nuggets: Original Artyfacts from the First Psychedelic Era. The band doesn’t switch it up at all out of the gate with this first release but there is little need to as the tracks kaleidoscope by. Coming straight out of a dusty lava lamp that has been buzzing four days straight in a So-Cal garage, Blackfeet Braves confidently strum and jangle displaying their retro wares proudly.
