GLIDE UPDATES:

Patterson Hood - Drive By Truckers
Best Albums of 2004
  • Loretta Lynn - Van Lear Rose
A dream come true, Loretta's best album in decades, possibly her most consistent ever. The best country album in over a decade, and at 70, she can teach us all about aging gracefully and remaining vibrant.

Runners Up:

  • Kanye West - The College Dropout
An amazing album with my favorite song of the year on it ("I Don't Care").
  • Tom Waits - Real Gone
Another incredible artist remaining vital in his 6th decade.

Favorite Live Performance of 2004
  • Centro-matic - My favorite band on the planet. They toured with us back in october and every single show was incredible. I could watch them every night. Wish I could.

Favorite On-Stage Moment/Show of 2004
  • Our NYC show at Irving Plaza (September 2004) was so far my all time favorite show.

Classic Album or Artist You Rediscovered This Year
  • Faces - Five Guys Walk Into A Bar (BOX SET)
The Box Set is new, but the songs are timeless classics. My favorite release of the year.

Artist You Are Most Excited About in 2005
  • Filmmakers Wes Anderson and Alexander Payne - Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums was my favorite film a few years ago and I can't wait to see The Life Aquatic. Went to see Sideways today and was blown away.
  • Painter Wes Freed - Wes has done the last three album covers for our band, but I have been in love with his work since I first saw his Patsy Cline painting nearly a decade ago. A true visionary.
  • Centro-matic - Flat out my favorite band in the world. They have everything. Will Johnson is an amazing singer, brilliant prolific songwriter and dynamite guitarist. Scott Danbom is an amazing fiddler and one of my favorite piano players. They have one of the best rhythm sections of any band anywhere, make great albums and are even better live. The best kept secret in music right now.

Best New Gadget You Can't Live Without
  • Hoping someone will get me an iPod for Xmas (hint hint).

New Hobby Discovered This Year
  • No hobbies old or new.

Guilty Pleasure of the Year
  • U2's new album. Mean Girls (movie),

The Retro Comeback You're Hoping for in 2005?
  • President Jimmy Carter and The return of ROCK. (It is happening, but not fast enough).

Selection for Person of the Year
  • David Barbe - Record producer, musician (bassist, drummer, guitarist, singer), songwriter, family man, role model for a large part of the Athens GA music community and certainly for me. When it came time for my wife and I to get married, he got his certificate, became Rev. David Barbe, and married us.

A Memorable Moment From the Road in 2004
  • What happens on the road stays on the road.
