Glide's 4th Annual Best of 2006: From the Artists' Perspective

By Glide Staff

Everyone makes their standard "best of's," top 10s" and "year in review" lists, but each December we like to take that model a couple of steps further. We go straight to the artists to see where they found inspiration over the past twelve months, and we don't stop with just album choices. We dig a bit deeper and go for a broader picture of the past year in art. From classic moments on the road to their guilty pleasure confessions, this is a panoramic snapshot of "the best of 2006," and a peek into what to expect in '07.

Favorite Live Performance of 2006
  • Pink Floyd at Live 8 was something I'd thought we'd never see happen. Gilmour, Waters, Mason & Wright. True Floyd!
  • I saw five Widespread Panic shows this year and loved them all. The three I saw on the Fall tour with Jimmy Herring were some of the best WSP I've ever witnessed. This is a band I've learned so much from.

Your Personal Favorite On-stage Moment/Show of 2006
  • Myself walking on stage for my first U.S. gig after returning to ekoostik Hookah. I've received tremendous "welcome home cheers" at all of the shows but that was the first.
  • Roger Waters yelling into the mic in Cleveland, "Fuck the conservative religious right!" and seeing people dressed for church walk out.

Best Film You Saw This Year
  • The same best film I see every year, "Harold and Maude" from 1971. The best suicide/love story ever put to film.

Classic Artist You Discovered This Year
  • I just dug out my vinyl collection so there are too many to name.

Artist You Are Most Excited About In 2007
  • Well ekoostik Hookah of course. Everybody is so energized on stage, everything old is new again and the newer songs are damn good. We're gonna have a great year in 2007 and I think people will really dig our new recording, It All Comes Together, coming out on New Years Eve.

Your Latest Guilty Pleasure
  • Cedar Point and all it's rollercoasters. Not guilty but definitely a pleasure. We are spoiled in Ohio when it come to great world class coasters.
  • Dining at very good restaurants and spending too much on wonderful food with top notch wines and Grey Goose on the rocks.

Favorite Site On The Net

A Memorable Moment In 2006
  • At a rehearsal our bassist Cliff was talking into his mic and then leaning three feet just after to check the level of what he'd just said. Physics make this very hard to do. Or anytime Eric our drummer opens his mouth or makes a facial expression. That man knows funny!
