Glide's 4th Annual Best of 2006: From the Artists' PerspectiveBy Glide StaffDecember 20, 2006 |
|
Everyone makes their standard "best of's," top 10s" and "year in review" lists, but each December we like to take that model a couple of steps further. We go straight to the artists to see where they found inspiration over the past twelve months, and we don't stop with just album choices. We dig a bit deeper and go for a broader picture of the past year in art. From classic moments on the road to their guilty pleasure confessions, this is a panoramic snapshot of "the best of 2006," and a peek into what to expect in '07.

Outkast: Idlewild - My fave track on this release "Hollywood Divorce." Best things about this album are that the compositional nature of the songs and melodies go way beyond typical genre formats; witty witty witty verses by Andre, Big Boi and their guests. I also really enjoy the singing on this album.

. M1 of Deadprez: Confidential - My fave track on this release is "Don't Put Down Your Flag." This album is hardcore and it is as smart as it is hard and loyal to its ideology. There's a thoughtfulness to the edgy lyrics. Consistent and revolutionary in all aspects. Bangin' beats too.

Tuesday, November 7th - Live in Maribor, Slovenia - ISWHAT?! @ IZZVEN FESTIVAL. The line-up for this show was yours truly Napoleon Maddox (MC/beatbox), Jac Walker (tenor sax/vocals), Claire Daly (baritone sax), Joe Fonda (bass) and Hamid Drake (drums). There was a unified energy in the band and on the stand that night The place was packed and there were some special people there that had been waiting for an ISWHAT?! show a long time. Jac even sang "The Creator Has A Master Plan" for the 3rd encore - It was beautiful.
