Glide's 5th Annual Best of 2007: From the Artists' Perspective

By The Glide Staff

  Bookmark and Share

Everyone makes their standard "best of's," top 10s" and "year in review" lists, but each December we like to take that model a couple of steps further. We go straight to the artists to see where they found inspiration over the past twelve months, and we don't stop with just album choices. We dig a bit deeper and go for a broader picture of the past year in art. From classic moments on the road to their guilty pleasure confessions, this is a panoramic snapshot of "the best of 2007," and a peek into what to expect in '08.

Best Album(s) of 2007

  • ALO – Roses and Clover

Favorite Live Performance of 2007

Personal Favorite On-stage Moment/Show of 2007
  • EO at Bear Creek, Live Oak Florida. It was 33 degrees out, I had just met 9 of the 12 people performing in EO including George Porter, Russell Batiste and Brian Stoltz.  The extreme nature of the weather reminded me of being at Burning Man, and in a way made the show unique…and when the music really went off, it made it even better.

Classic Album or Artist You Discovered This Year

  • My kids have been listening to the Beatles Revolver over and over again and it’s been re-ingrained in my brain.

Best Film You Saw This Year
  • Fierce Grace – About Ram Dass’s journey post-stroke

  • An Inconvenient Truth – Need I say more?

  • Hairspray – John Travolta is hilarious!

Song From The Past Year You Wish You Wrote

  • “She's Mine”  by Brett Dennen

Artist You Are Most Excited About In 2008

  • SEE (Small Ensemble Experiments) is a sibling to EO that puts me on the drums.  Most people don’t realize I’m a drummer and I’m just so happy to be behind the kit!

Your Latest Guilty Pleasure

  • Heroes

A Memorable/Humorous/Classic Moment on the tour bus/road in 2007

  • Fishing with Jeff Sipe, Jeff Coffin, Mike Sugar, Chris Haugen, Tanya Shylock and Asher Fulero on the Southeast tour we did in Feb. Plus Sipe/coffin playing with photo booth on my macbook.
