Radiohead’s New Album Comes In 10 Days

Written by Scott Bernstein on 09.30.2007 | News, Radiohead

Radiohead fans and other salivating webgeeks were disappointed last week when a site called radioheadlp7.com — which featured a countdown clock until the band’s supposedly new album — turned out to be a hoax.

But misdirection led to some truth, and tonight we are hearing news of a pending release: Radiohead has just put up a link on radiohead.com to pre-order their new album In Rainbows. The new material will available for download in only 10 days, October 10th. And in a case of the ultimate switcharoo, radioheadlp7.com now redirects you right to the official InRainbows site, where you can pre-order the album. Now that, my friends, is what we call craisins.

Or is this all just another hoax? If it’s real, Radiohead has found an incredibly creative way to bypass leaks and can revolutionize the industry with tonight’s announcement. Those old-fashioned types who want an actual CD will have to wait until December 3rd, when the discboxes will be shipped. We can’t wait to see what Bob Lefsetz has to say about this news. Thanks to Jez for the heads-up.

The Week That Was: Tears of Rage

Written by Ace Cowboy on 09.30.2007 | The Week That Was

It’s a bad day to be a fan of the New York Metropolitans and a good day to support the Phillies. But as the Ultimate Schadenfreude concluded on a sunny Sunday afternoon, it turned out to be a great day to be a resident of Brooklyn: The 33rd annual Atlantic Antic street fair proved to be an orgiastic feast of pulled pork, live music, red velvet cupcakes, old-school buses and the unfulfilled promise of once-in-a-year shwarma. And I almost won a bike playing bocce.

Crybaby

We’ll have more from Atlantic Ave tomorrow…for now, here’s the best of last week:

Whoa, Ryan Adams…Take It Easy, Tiger

Written by Ace Cowboy on 09.28.2007 | News, Ryan Adams

Just when you thought the brooding 32-year-old was getting his shit together, and just when we devote some column inches to one of his fantastic late-September shows, Ryan Adams reminds us that he’s still as batshit crazy as he used to be. The Heartbreaker had another Headbreakdown.

RyanAdams

The former target of Phil Lesh’s boycrushes showed up in Minneapolis last night and did, what you all thought he was gonna do, which is just flip out:

Throughout a show Thursday night, the 32-year-old singer-guitarist complained about the sound monitors onstage at the State Theatre. At one point, he moved two monitors, his microphone and his guitar pedals.

After 70 minutes he’d had enough. Adams announced “the last song,” played it and didn’t return for an encore. Many fans stood and booed.

You have to love a show where the paying audience stands up and boos. Please, YouTube Gods, make yourself visible and dredge up some goodness for us.

Briefly: Nitrous Mafia Hits Up Phillies’ Games

Written by Ace Cowboy on 09.28.2007 | News

Well, we always knew Philadelphia was the City of WaWaWaWa — the proof now comes from the Phillies’ NL East and wild card playoff races: “It seems the market for nitrous balloons among the tailgating crowd has really taken off. I’ve heard about this at Dave concerts, but never at Phillies games.” [Philly Blog]

Friday’s Leftovers: And The Nominees Are….

Madonna, The Beastie Boys and John Mellencamp are among the nine bands nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We’re gonna predict that Afrika Bambaataa and Leonard Cohen will join the aforementioned acts on the stage at the Waldorf Astoria on March 10th, which would leave Chic, The Ventures, Donna Summer and the Dave Clark Five as nominees on the outside looking in. It blows our minds that Chic and Donna Summer were nominated, while Genesis, Rush, Yes, The Stooges and Metallica were ignored. I’m all for diversity but this ain’t the Disco Hall of Fame. You’re better than that, Rock.

Frustrating, but we’ve got plenty of other links to take your mind off that shit:

And, lastly, the Vancouver Police are speculating that a crowd-surfing or moshing accident led to the death of a fan at Monday’s Smashing Pumpkins concert. Stay safe out there, kids.

For Real: Van Halen Actually Takes The Stage

Written by Scott Bernstein on 09.28.2007 | News, Van Halen

After more than a decade of trying, Van Halen finally took the stage with David Lee Roth last night at Charlotte Bobcats Arena in North Carolina. Van Halen played 26 songs, all of which came from the six albums they recorded before Sammy Hagar came along in 1986, none of which came from men with 1980s teased hairdos.

Reports say 16-year-old Wolfgang Van Halen handled both the bass playing and background vocals extremely well. It’s also nice to hear that David Lee Roth’s vocals are sounding good, and that Eddie Van Halen is still tearing it up. We just hope that Eddie and David Lee can continue to put the music above their petty bickering (at least until they hit the NYC area in early November). Van Halen plays their second show on Saturday night at the Greensboro Coliseum. Read on for the setlist from Charlotte…

The Kids Are Alright: Care Bears on Fire

Written by Ace Cowboy on 09.27.2007 | Care Bears, Interviews, Kidzz

Middle school can be rough, a time when even the most well-adjusted kids are doing everything they can to look as cool as possible in the company of others. But some kids are just born that way, and the best thing they can do to look cool is just be cool. Sophie, Lucio and Izzy — Care Bears on Fire — are three such kids.

CarebearsonFire

The three seventh-graders met in kindergarten, and since the fall of 2005, Sophie (guitar and vocals), Izzy (drums) and Lucio (bass) have been playing gigs in rock clubs, dances and parties under a moniker that’s far too clever for your average 12-year-old. Care Bears on Fire isn’t exactly breaking the mold and reinventing rock and/or roll with each show, but any power trio that can make a room full of adults grin from ear to ear and throw up the rock horns deserve at least a modicum of our undivided attention.

The pre-teen punk-infused power trio releases its first full-length debut album, I Stole Your Animal, on Tuesday, October 2nd, and the band will host a CD release party at Brooklyn’s Southpaw tomorrow night (the 29th). There you’ll be reminded of the teenage angst that once plagued your every thought, and you’ll most definitely smile along with the band as they throw down rockers like “Met You on MySpace” and “Five-Minute Boyfriend.”

Feel free to get sloshed on all the tequila you can stomach, but this is one show you should be careful not to offer anything to the band. Care Bears on Fire was kind of enough to answer a battery of questions for us, and our interview as well as the band’s debut video for Everybody Else follow after the jump…

Briefly: Scorsese Takes A Stab at Harrison Doc

Written by Ace Cowboy on 09.27.2007 | News, The Beatles

The Last Waltz, No Direction Home, Comes A Time…now Marty will produce a documentary about the life and times of George Harrison: “Pic will cover Harrison’s Beatles career and later years that included a successful solo music career as well as a foray as a movie mogul when he backed Handmade Films and made pics such as Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Time Bandits. Scorsese…will also focus closely on the Eastern spiritual pursuits that were central to Harrison’s life.” [Variety]
