7/6/98: Czech Out The New Live Phish
There’s nothing we love more than opening our inbox to find an email message announcing a new edition of Live Phish. They don’t call this day Good Friday for nothin’. This time we get the first official release from the Europe ‘98 tour, namely the show from July 6, 1998 at the Lucerna Theater in Prague.

And you don’t even have to wait much longer to download the show, as the professionally-mastered MP3s and FLACs will be available at Livephish.com on Tuesday. Those who prefer their music in physical form can order the CD package at Dry Goods. Read on after the jump for the full press release, but first check out the phenomenal Ghost from the new release:
Next Tuesday (3/25/08) JEMP Records will be releasing another of Phish’s classic shows, 7/6/98 from the Lucerna Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic. In keeping with recent livephish.com releases this show has been mastered by Fred Kevorkian from Paul Languedoc’s 2-track soundboard reference DATs. To save space, along with renting most of their gear while flying from city to city on the 1998 European tour, the shows were not recorded to multi-track.This release will be available in both of our normal digital download formats, MP3 and FLAC, as well as on CD (packaged in an innovative and earth friendly, fully recycled folding softcase-pak) . This release will not yet be available in stores but you can pick it up from both Phish Dry Goods (www.drygoods.phish.com) and the LivePhish Download Store ( www.livephish.com). Dry Goods and LivePhish.com will have bundle packages available, so you can save on both hard goods and downloads.
July 6, 1998 is the second of two shows Phish played at the Lucerna Theatre, an old theater turned into a music club located a few flights below street level in the Nove Mesto section of Prague. This show entwines music from the album “The Story of The Ghost” with Phish classics in a non-stop, hard-rocking performance elevated by its unique location and intimate setting. The intimacy of this show can not be overestimated - the average size of the venues Phish was playing at in the United States at the time were easily 20-30 times larger.

it will be hard to please the masses with releases because there are so many people like myself who traded and downloaded almost of everything post 93-94. so, good luck waiting on something rare and keep putting quality shows out like these. there are still MANY newbs out there that are thirsty for jewels like these.

Great show…but I already have a very very good sounding copy of this show…kind of like some of the other Live Phish releases - I wish they would put out shows that aren’t already out there from excellent sources…

I’ve been waiting for this show for a long time! I’ve had the bootleg dvd from tradersden.org and could never find the audio. This show is absolutely incredible. This is easily one of the best phish shows i’ve ever heard. My prayers have been answered. Thanks so much. Peace!

wowwwwwwwwwwww. the best show of the europe ‘98 tour by a country mile. ethan schwartz (of langerado fame) and myself had the pleasure of guerilla videotaping 5 nights of this run. it was crazy sketchy (got busted in copenhagen) and a lot of work but the results are priceless. watching this show still gives us chills and we hope you can feel half the energy that was in the room on that glorious evening. it was the best time of our lives. thank you trey. thank you phish. thanks for everything. -matt zwiebel

hey, skyscraper, this is in fact in my top TEN! and I know my $h! — I have nearly all of ‘97 and ‘98 on tape, and a healthy dose of ‘00. you’re crazy, man - this show is DYNAMITE! the Ghost -> Cities alone makes it a defining moment of Phishtory - I know it wasn’t really the PHUNK, but I’ve never heard Trey tear like he does in that Ghost, and the time-changes in Cities are unreal!

What a great show in a great venue - I was waiting for the first release from this quick europe tour - I always thought they would choose the secong night in Barcelona but this Lucerna show is indeed amazing - The Buried Alive was extremely prudent as an opener since the Lucerna is an underground venue - It was two or three flights down from street level to the floor if I remember correctly

Livephish.com was ahead of the curve by offering free downloads. But it’s time for them to catch up with the rest of the industry in how they do it. If I order the CD, let me have the download for free while I wait! It’s called incentivizing, which works better than de-incentivizing.
And while they’re at it, when they remaster shows and add bonus content, they should offer free downloads to the people who bought it the first time around…
Amazing show, though…they definitely made the right decision to release it.

In addition to the 7/6/98 CD set, a Europe ‘98 poster and tour shirt will be available at Dry Goods beginning Tuesday.
And this show is indeed amazing.

The first half of the first set smokes. The second set is really where the action is with interesting jams in great places. I don’t think this show would rank in anyones Top 20, but that’s a great thing.
I sincerely hope JEMP begins to release shows that are well under the radar or have never been in high circulation.

I am actually quite excited for this. The first night was a bit of a mess, but I really really liked this show. The Ghost > slowed-down Cities, stop-on-a-dime Maze. And still my favorite Piper ever . . . Good stuff.

On the floor…Digitech Whammy 2.

Trey doesn’t play a whammy. Thats funny though!
March 21st, 2008 at 2:59 pm
I love, love, love, love, love watching this youtube so much. at about 4 minutes in when Trey hits the whammy and pulls that line up an octave, the crowd goes crazy and he just grins like a little kid and sticks his tongue out….you can just imagine what he’s thinking…”yup, I am blowing your minds yet again.” We need that Trey back.
