The Allman Brothers Band’s 40th Anniversary Run at the Beacon Theatre continues to be filled with special guests, bustouts and tremendous playing all around. Last night, the parade of epic guest spots continued with Bruce Willis, the Juke Horns and Boz Scaggs sitting in at various points.

This epic run of shows is dedicated to the late great Duane Allman. As with each show of the run thusfar, last night’s Midnight Rider opener featured images of Skydog displayed on screens behind the band. Towards the middle of the first set, Warren Haynes welcomed Southside Johnny’s horn section – the Juke Horns – to join the band for a cover of Van Morrison’s Into The Mystic. The appearance of the Juke Horns has become a Beacon run weekend show tradition dating back to the beginning of the decade. Actor Bruce Willis shocked the crowd with his killer harmonica chops on the One Way Out and Smokestack Lighting that followed.

For the second set, the Allmans welcomed long-rumored special guest Boz Scaggs on guitar and vocals. Unlike most of the guests we’ve seen so far, Scaggs actually played and recorded with Duane – most notably on the single Loan Me A Dime back in 1969. Scaggs sat in on It Takes A Lot To Laugh (It Takes A Train To Cry), Sick and Tired and Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City before delivering the highlight of the night – an intense Loan Me A Dime that found Derek Trucks channeling Skydog throughout. Boz left the stage to a well-deserved standing ovation. The Brothers’ anniversary run continues tonight at the sold-out Beacon.
