Allmans @ Beacon Announcement Coming

Earlier this week, we ran an interview with Warren Haynes in which the Allman Brothers Band guitarist told our Chad Berndtson that “as far as [he] knew” the group would be returning to the Beacon Theatre in March after Banana Shpeel’s residency at the theater forced the ABB to head north to the United Palace for a truncated run earlier this year.

Today, the New York Times’ Arts Beat blog put up a post sharing the news that Beacon owner MSG Entertainment and Live Nation have called a press conference for Monday at 11AM for a big announcement. Arts Beat speculates that the Allman Brothers Band’s return to the Beacon will be announced at that time and we think that’s a good call, especially since the band will be in town for Another One For Woody.

In the most recent issue of Rolling Stone, Gregg Allman tells the mag that “we got something on paper that says they won’t do that again” in reference to MSGE kicking them to the curb for the ill-fated musical.

The Allman Brothers Band first performed at the Beacon in September ’89 and started the long-time March Madness tradition on March 10th, 1992; they played ten shows at the venue that month. Another interesting anniversary should come up during the run as the legendary live album At Fillmore East was recorded on March 12-13, 1971. Look for more details  after Monday’s announcement on the Upper West Side of NYC.
