Announcing: ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror

After spending three years at the kitschy Kutsher’s Country Club in the Catskills region of New York, organizers behind the highly successful All Tomorrow’s Parties have announced a change for this year, deciding to move their hipster friendly festival to the site of another once thriving summer destination – Asbury Park, NJ. The event is part of ATP’s I’ll Be Your Mirror series and will be curated by UK trip-hop act Portishead. Featuring over 30 music acts, a comedy stage and films, the three-day fest will take place from September 30th – October 2nd with events at the Convention Hall, Paramount Theatre, Asbury Lanes and the Berkeley Hotel.

While that’s all well and good, the bigger news to come out of this announcement is that Neutral Milk Hotel frontman Jeff Mangum will play his first large scale public performance in over a decade on the first night of the fest at the Paramount Theatre. Mangum, who played two brief solo sets last year, including a surprise gig at a Brooklyn loft last month, has rarely performed publicly since NHM went on permanent hiatus in 1998.

With what is expected to be high demand to see the reclusive singer-songwriter at the 1,300 seat venue, only those who buy three-day passes for the event will be able to gain access to his show. Mangum will also play a second, non-festival headlining show at the Paramount on Monday, October 3, which will go on-sale, along with single day and full festival passes for I’ll Be Your Mirror, this Friday at 9 AM EST.

  1. Ha. No worries. I figured it was just an “autospell” error or something. Pretty pumped to hear some recordings of these shows.
